Greensburg, Kansas, was nearly wiped off the map in May 2007 when an EF-5 tornado nearly decimated the town destroying almost everything in its path. But the city’s resilience was amazing and today it is known as a “green town”. It is one of the first cities to use all LED streetlights and is 100 percent renewable. Though it is a city with less than 800 people, it is known for many amazing attractions and things to do.
Find historical museums and water wells
The Big Well Museum & Visitor Information Center is known for being the World’s Largest Hand Dug Well. Built in 1886, you can explore this 109-feet-deep well, view exhibits on the history of Greensburg and learn about the 2007 tornado. You can also find the World’s Largest Pallasite Meteorite at this museum. Made of stony-iron meteorite, this artifact is a must-see. Have some fun at the Kiowa County Historical Museum & Soda Fountain. Explore exhibits and displays about the settlers and founders of Kiowa County, where Greensburg is located. At the end of your museum experience, enjoy ice cream, sundaes and many soda flavors.
Visit the Twilight Theatre
The Greensburg Twilight Theatre & Community Auditorium offers performing arts and films. Watch movies, enjoy performances and rent the theatre out for private parties.
