Mark Your Calendar for Third Thursday in Various Locations Throughout Derby, Kansas

Summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun will end. Spend your Thursdays experiencing art, entertainment and more importantly, food throughout Derby, Kansas. Enjoy a series of free, community fun events hosted by the City of Derby


What is Third Thursday 

Starting in August 2023, Third Thursday is a time to get together with family and friends throughout Derby. This event always includes food trucks, featured artists and truly entertaining entertainment. 

What a Third Thursday can look like at 512 E Madison Avenue

So, what happens on Third Thursday? Well, how does compelling art, filling food and a sing-off contest sound? Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m., visit Madison Avenue Central Park. This spacious outdoor gathering spot is perfect for a night of entertainment. 

Artists include Mickey Shannon with nature photography art, gourd art by Deb Thomas and watercolor painting by Lari Howard. You can also check out hand-made quilts by the Derby Senior Center. Dance performances by Derby Dance Company start at 5:20 p.m., and Ballet Wichita at 5:40 p.m. Don’t miss the sing-off contest by Derby Recreation Commission from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Order food and drinks from food trucks including Busy B’s, Cheezepanzee, El Gusto, Funky Monkey Munchies, Honey and Rue’s, Tater ‘N’ Toppings, Want Bierocks, Tickled Pink, First Man Brewery, Grace Hill Winery and Shaken or Stirred Bartending.

Don’t want to spend your Thursday outdoors? We got you covered with indoor locations

Head to the Derby Public Library, 1600 Walnut Grove, for art and live music. From 6 to 8 p.m., discover Jeffrey Gowen’s oil and pastels in the High Wall Gallery. This library won’t be silent with live music by On Tap. Check out live music on the patio of The Sandbox, 2412 N Rock Road, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Take a quieter approach to your Thursday, and take a tour at the Derby Historical Museum, 710 E Market Street, from 5 to 8 p.m. Hubbard Arts Center, 309 N. Woodlawn Avenue, is hosting a dedication ceremony for Derby native Gary Behrens, from 5 to 7 p.m. Finally, explore Zach Arroyo’s glass and mixed media displayed art at First Man Brewery, 437 E Madison Avenue.

If you can’t make the upcoming Third Thursday on September 21, 2023, don’t worry, there’s more. Information about October’s Third Thursday is already available. All listed participating locations will be involved each month with different artists and entertainment. However, make sure to stay up to date with dates, times and locations of the main events.
